nariiki is a Tokyo-based ensemble I lead and compose for, ranging in size from quintet to big band, featuring both local Tokyo players and guest musicians from around the world alongside core members "Akkun" Ando (alto sax and effects), Ryuichi Yoshida (baritone sax), and Daigo Wakasugi (drums), and Takumi Matsumura (flute). Punk + chamber jazz + Tokyo underground noise = ? Also on bandcamp.
Nouon (pronounced "NO-on") is an improvising quartet featuring unique instrumentation and genre bending original compositions, with the vibraphonist Azusa Yamada , Junpei Yamamoto (drums) and Huw Lloyd (contrabass clarinet). Also on bandcamp
NAtO (North Atlantic tonal Organization)
A collaboration between Danish bassist Max Nauta and myself, NAtO is a Berlin-based collective fortified with drums and a string quartet, including players from Germany, Poland, Canada, the US, and other mostly democratic countries. Beautiful Danish jazz meets harsh ugly American aggression.
I'm the pianist for a number Tokyo improvisational comedy theater groups: as a founding member of the Japanese troupe Improlabo (improlabo.org) and regular musician for the Tokyo Comedy Store (tokyocomedy.com). I'm also an occasional guest musician at Seattle's Unexpected Productions, BATS San Francisco, and theater festivals worldwide. Dedicated theater page is here.
This is a duo noise and free texture project with electronic artist Akihiko Ando. Video can be seen here
Loolowningen & The Far East Idiots
I'm a formal original member and now occasional guest in this J-indies/prog band. loolowningen.com for more info.
Polylis was a free jazz electro pop noise band, with 6 seasoned members of the Tokyo hardcore underground scene. Go to the polylis bandcamp page for more info.
